Community Guidelines

Last updated: October 11, 2026

LabMate is a space where graduate students can safely surface the uncertainty in their research. So that "I don't know" becomes a starting point rather than something to hide, please join us in a few simple promises of mutual respect.

What's welcome
  • Honest questions and sticking points — the less sure you are, the more welcome it is.
  • Career and admissions worries, lab-life stories, and notes on your research process.
  • Sharing the process as it is, including failures and dead ends (negative results).
  • Helpful feedback and warm encouragement for fellow researchers.
What's not allowed
  • Insults, personal attacks, harassment, or targeted defamation.
  • Exposing others' real names, affiliations, contacts, or other personal information (including deepfakes/screenshots).
  • Spam, advertising, repetitive flooding, or unrelated promotion.
  • Misinformation, impersonation, plagiarism, or copyright infringement.
  • Hate speech or discrimination based on sex, race, region, gender, etc.
  • Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — zero tolerance.
Read our Child Safety Standards
Our promise on anonymity
  • Anonymity exists to enable candor. An author's identity is never revealed to other users.
  • Harm committed behind anonymity (harassment, doxxing, etc.) is not protected and is moderated by the same standards.
  • Identity is shown only as "School · Nickname" and is never linked to lab information.
Reporting and review
  • Posts or comments that breach these guidelines can be reported (6 reasons).
  • Reports are reviewed by our team and resolved as dismiss, hide, or delete.
  • Multiple reports on the same target are reviewed together and handled at once.
Suspension policy
  • Repeated or serious violations may suspend an account, blocking login and posting.
  • Suspension is a reversible hold, and the reason is recorded.
  • If you wish to appeal a suspension, please contact us at the email below.
