환경바이오기술·바이오에너지 연구실(EBTEL)을 이끌며 미생물·미세조류를 활용한 바이오연료 생산과 폐자원 재활용 바이오에너지를 연구한다. 연소 배기가스의 질소산화물·이산화탄소, 산업 유래 황화수소 등 대기 유해물질을 포집·저감해 유용 물질로 전환하는 연구를 수행한다.
