KAIST 건설및환경공학과 조계춘 교수의 지반시스템 연구실(Geosystems Laboratory)로 2002년 설립되었다. 미시적 규모의 흙 거동 메커니즘에 기반해 전통 지반공학을 현대 이론·기법과 융합하는 연구를 수행한다. 바이오폴리머 기반 친환경 지반보강재, 지하공간 개발 및 터널 공법, 워터젯 암반 굴착, AI 기반 터널 유지관리, 가스하이드레이트 등을 다룬다.
