기체상, 용액상, 고체상에서 분자 수준의 화학 반응 메커니즘을 연구한다. 초고속 X선 및 전자 회절 기법과 분광법을 결합하여 분자 구조 동역학과 단백질 구조 동역학을 실시간으로 관측한다. 펨토초 X선 산란을 이용한 용액 내 결합 형성의 직접 관측 등의 연구를 수행한다.
