심형섭 교수의 첨단 추진 및 에너지 연구실(APEL)은 항공우주·국방·에너지 분야의 추진 및 연소 시스템을 기초과학부터 시스템 수준까지 통합적으로 연구한다. 극초음속 공기흡입식 추진, 고에너지밀도·나노기능성 연료, 스마트 추진제, 분무·제트 연소, 광학 진단, 다중스케일 시뮬레이션 등을 다룬다.
