화학과 생물학의 경계에서 합성생물학을 연구한다. 새로운 작용기를 가진 비천연 아미노산을 단백질에 도입하는 유전암호 확장 기술과 단백질 공학을 통해 단백질 기능을 진화시킨다. 암 치료제 등 고효능·고선택성 신약 개발과 단백질 인산화효소 저해제 스크리닝 같은 생의학 응용을 수행한다.
