액정, 초분자, 고분자, 무기 입자 등 소프트 물질의 합성과 위상학적 제약을 통한 나노/마이크로 구조 배향 제어를 연구한다. 산란 및 현미경 기법을 이용한 구조 분석, 유기 광학 및 전자소자 응용을 다루며, 패턴화된 키랄 액정의 위상학적 솔리톤, 아밀로이드 섬유 자기조립 등을 주요 주제로 한다.
