유홍기 교수의 BOOM Lab(Biomedical Optics and Optical Metrology Lab, 의광학 및 광측정 연구실)은 2019년 KAIST에 설립되어, '이전에 보이지 않던 것을 시각화한다'는 목표로 새로운 광학 시스템을 개발한다. 광간섭단층촬영(OCT), 공초점 현미경, 다중모달 광학 영상 시스템을 개발하며, 심혈관 질환 진단·광생검·정밀 산업용 3D 광측정과 함께 영상에서 의미 있는 정보를 추출하는 기계학습 연구를 수행한다.
