열 및 에너지시스템 연구실은 기후변화와 에너지 부족 위기에 대응하기 위해 불용 에너지를 유용 에너지로 변환하는 방법을 연구한다. 온도 차이의 열에너지를 직접 전기에너지로 변환하는 열전효과를 핵심으로, 고체 내부 에너지 밴드와 격자 결함을 조정하는 도핑 물질·방법·합성을 실험하고 열·전기적 특성을 측정한다. 두 단계 열화학 물 분해 온도를 낮추는 신규 산화물 발견 등의 성과가 있다.
