KAIST 신소재공학과 교수로 에너지 소재 연구실(Energy Materials Lab, EML)을 이끈다. 와이드 밴드갭 페로브스카이트와 탠덤 구조 태양전지, 페로브스카이트 발광소자, CIGS·안티몬 칼코제나이드 등 무기 박막 태양전지, 그리고 광전기화학적 물분해·질소 환원 촉매를 연구한다. 차세대 페로브스카이트 태양전지 분야의 성과로 과학기술정보통신부·한국연구재단의 '이달의 과학기술인상'을 수상했다.
