김흥수 교수 연구실(스마트 소재 및 설계 연구실, Smart Material & Design Lab)은 동국대 기계공학과 소속으로, 첨단 복합재 구조물의 건전성 예측 및 관리(PHM)를 연구한다. 복합재 구조의 실시간 손상 진단, 인공지능·딥러닝 기반 결함 탐지, 데이터 증강·전이학습을 활용한 손상 탐지, 구조 최적화 및 수치해석을 다루며, 한국연구재단 2024년 글로벌 기초연구실(심화형) 사업에 선정되었다.
