밀도범함수이론(DFT) 기반 양자화학 계산과 머신러닝을 결합해 에너지·촉매 소재를 연구한다. 합금 나노촉매 표면의 금속-산화물 계면이 촉매 성능을 좌우하는 원리를 규명했고, 수만 종 소재 데이터를 학습해 원하는 물성의 신소재를 역설계하는 기법과 리튬-산소 전지 등 에너지 소재 개발 연구를 수행해 왔다.
