이호원 교수는 첨단 제조 및 3D 프린팅(Advanced Manufacturing, 3D Printing)을 전공하며 Advanced Manufacturing and Programmable Matter Laboratory를 운영한다. 연구실은 빠르고 유연하며 확장 가능한 적층 마이크로/나노 제조에 초점을 두고 Additive Manufacturing, Programmable Matter, Architected Materials, Bio-inspired Designs의 네 분야를 연구한다. 소프트 능동 소재의 기초 물리·역학을 탐구하며 기계적 메타물질, 3D/4D 프린팅, 형상기억 폴리머, 생체모사 설계, 바이오메디컬 마이크로 소자 등을 다룬다.
