바이오및뇌공학과 명예교수로 KAIST 총장을 역임했으며, 의과학 분야와 연계되는 바이오정보학과 인공지능 연구를 수행해 왔습니다. 바이오와 ICT의 융합을 주창하여 바이오및뇌공학과를 설립했고, 퍼지 지능 시스템과 생물정보 분석 등 계산 기반 바이오 연구를 이끌어 왔습니다.
