서울대 컴퓨터공학부 교수로 소프트웨어 원리 연구실(Software Foundations Lab, SFLab)을 이끈다. 소프트웨어 검증(프로그램 논리·컴파일러 정확성), 완화된 메모리 일관성(relaxed memory concurrency), 저수준 언어 의미론, 자동·대화형 정리증명을 연구한다. 이론적으로 흥미로우면서 실용적으로도 유용한 소프트웨어 문제 해결을 지향한다.
