서울대 컴퓨터공학부 명예교수(emeritus)다. 1991년부터 서울대 컴퓨터공학과 교수로 재직했으며 학부장(2007-2010), CIO 등을 역임했다. 빅데이터 분석 연구실을 이끌며 객체지향 데이터베이스, 시맨틱 웹/온톨로지, 대용량 데이터 처리 등을 연구해 왔다. 현직 활동 연구실 홈페이지는 확인되지 않아 URL은 비워 둔다.
