중이온 충돌 실험 연구실(HIPEx, Heavy Ion Physics Experiment Laboratory)을 이끈다. 극고온·고밀도 환경에서 쿼크가 해방되는 쿼크-글루온 플라스마를 연구하며, CERN ALICE, 브룩헤이븐 STAR, 독일 GSI CBM 등 국제 공동연구에 참여한다.
