홍성훈 교수의 6시그마 실험실은 제품과 서비스 품질 향상을 위한 통계적 방법을 연구한다. 6시그마, 품질경영, 통계적 품질관리(SPC), 실험계획법(DOE), 신뢰성공학을 주요 주제로 하며, DMAIC 로드맵과 QFD·TRIZ 등 DFSS 기법을 다룬다. 홍 교수는 한국품질경영학회 학회장을 역임했다.
