표면화학 연구실(352-409)을 이끌며 물리화학 기반의 표면 및 생체재료 연구를 수행한다. 하이드록시아파타이트(hydroxyapatite)의 크기·형태·결정성·표면 전하 및 표면 작용기를 제어해 우수한 생체적합성과 기능성을 갖는 바이오세라믹을 개발한다. 무기 표면과 유기 박막을 결합한 복합재료 연구도 함께 진행한다.
