최원식 교수 연구실은 고려대 물리학과 소속으로, 산란 매질을 통과하는 초고심도 광학 현미경을 연구한다. 생체 조직 깊숙한 곳을 초고해상도로 영상화하는 기술을 개발하며, IBS 분자 분광학 및 동력학 연구단 부연구단장을 겸한다.
